BCLIR was established in 1983 as the Brown Community of Learning in Retirement, and has been an active educational model for lifelong learning for over two decades.   

In May of 2008, we became an independent non-profit organization, an umbrella for lifelong learning in our area.  Now in our second year, we have developed partnerships with multiple sites: Brown University Continuing Education, Johnson & Wales University, the RISD Museum, and Trinity Repertory Company.  We have retained the initials BCLIR, for it reflects our history, but it no longer has its original meaning.

Please use one registration form per person.

NOTE: Commencing in Spring 2010, to either register for or to coordinate a BCLIR course, you must be a BCLIR member.  If you have not joined as a BCLIR member for 2009-2010 (July 1 through June 30), you must include your $25 membership fee with your registration.

BCLIR OFFERS GREAT DECISIONS, WINTER 2010

Great Decisions is a national civic education program sponsored by the Foreign Policy Association.  The Great Decisions briefing book, published annually, highlights eight of the most thought-provoking foreign policy challenges facing America. It provides background information, current data, and policy options for each of the eight issues and serves as the focal text for the discussion groups.

We will offer three sections of Great Decisions.  All cover the same material.  Choose the day and location that is best for you. There is no fee for the course.  Books may be purchased at the first class and cost about $18.00.  Pre-registration is required before December 15 so we can order the correct number of texts. To register, please fill out and return the attached form to BCLIR Great Decisions, PO Box 603126, Providence, RI 02906.

Friday mornings at Johnson and Wales University, coordinator Barbara Dickinson, barbara.dickinson@cox.net, 401-884-7873.  Beginning January 15 for 7 weeks.  Limited number of parking/access passes in the JWU lot will be distributed on a first come, first served basis by date of registration.
